A poem should not mean/ But be

This is a first, no black and bitterness for me today, none of the shallow accoutrements of popular culture's marketing scheme, either, thank goodness - just chilly sunshine, sleeping in late with my toes kept warm by someone special, perusing art, antique stores in an abundance and a cozy lunch at home. Gemütlichkeit

Today

Today is my grandfather's birthday. I called him on the telephone at my parent's house and wished him a nice day and an enjoyable birthday and told him I loved him and he said back, like he always does in his still discernable New York accent, "love you too, baby". It's my favorite.

Today I am making 'Rustic Lentil and Tomato Soup', because it is very cold and the vegetable stall where I buy fruits and vegetables at the flea market near my house had an abundance of tomatoes and they looked good, like plump little rubies.

Today I am paying all of my bills because I apparently forgot they were sitting on the living room table for a week? Oops, late fees, I deserve you for being absent-minded.

Today I am. ( And it is lovely)

Surprise

Today in the mail I got an envelope with regards to graduation (ahh!) and a cute little valentine card from my friend (and talented painter), Jen Pounds (who's wedding I am going to sadly miss this summer). This is a good Friday for mail! Speaking of mail, Christy, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, I am sending you two red dresses that I don't wear that often, as, apparently (like Picasso), I am in my blue period, that will look darling on you. So keep an eye out for those in the next week or so!
Sidenote: it is funny how, when you are not looking for anything and have absolutely no expectations, the universe presents with you something amazing. Thursday night, what a fabulous surprise and thank you and thank you and thank you and thank you.
Here's a fun photo my pal Josh did, have a laughsy as my church lady hat and holy roller status:

Brr

I know Jacksonville's not the Northeast right now (blizzard central, check this picture my Aunt Kath sent, holy moly) but I biked to my internship today, as it's only three or so blocks away at FCCJ this week instead of down in Riverside, and I am pretty sure my ears are frozen!

Handstands For You

Listen here, world: words on a cellphone via text fall flat with insincerity; it's all about what one says and what one does synching, good sirs and madams. Don't feed me any of that baloney, I won't have it!

So, this week --

An odd assortment of goods and bads, the highlights being: stomache bug all week, no fun, and being offered a scholarship to paint in the south of France this summer. Jeez oh! Overwhelmed and under the weather.
